Vehicle Description

The Pontiac Big Six was a mid-range car built by Pontiac, a brand of General Motors, from 1929 to 1932. Until 1931, the successor to the New Series was the only car of the brand, from 1932 he was given an eight-cylinder model to the side.

When the series was introduced in January 1929, it called itself Pontiac New Big Six and had the serial number 6-29. In August 1929, the Pontiac Big Six with the serial number 6-29A was added. In January 1930, this Big Six received the new serial number 6-30B. In 1930, there was no intermediate series, so was presented as "Model 1931" the Pontiac Fine Six with the serial number 401. In August 1931 came as "Model 1932" the series 402 (without name)

The successor to the New Series was not too different from its predecessor. Model for the styling of the new car was the British Vauxhall. The grille now had a vertical chrome bar in the middle. The range of bodies corresponded to the previous model and included a roadster, a convertible, a coupe and a sedan with 2 doors and a Phaeton, a sedan and a Landaulet (in which the previous year's "sports sedan" was renamed again) with 4 doors each. The side-steering in-line six-cylinder engine had been slightly enlarged to produce 3,000 cc of 60 bhp (44 kW) at 3,000 rpm. Dry clutch, three-speed gearbox with center, cardan shaft and mechanical four-wheel brakes were standard.

The mid-model year introduced Big Six 6-29A showed no changes, but the convertible and the Landaulet were no longer offered.

The Big Six of the 1930 model year had some changes. In the bulkhead, a chrome-plated rod stretched from left fender over the bonnet to the right fender. The windscreen was tilted slightly backwards, and the rear window of the closed superstructures was oval rather than rectangular.

The advertising slogan that ran at the time read “The Convertible Landaulet Sedan…..a smart combination of open car freedom with closed car comfort and luxury”
Refreshingly cool and open…..when driven with the top back on a fine summer day and evening. Luxuriously snug and comfortable……when the top is up to ward off summer showers or winter blasts.
The convertible part of the this luxury Pontiac can be easily and quickly lowered…..and just as easily and quickly raised.
Internally, the Landaulet can noted for it’s grace and elegance not to mention it’s luxury, with charming rich upholstery and deep inviting seats.
Externally, it stands out thanks to its graceful beautiful lines.
This particular vehicle was purchased by its previous owner whilst holidaying in America, he shipped the car vehicle over to the UK and it was there another chapter began in the life and times of PONTY.
He was completely stripped down, right down to the bare chassis. His engine was removed and also stripped down and rebuilt. Look I could go on and on stating what he has had done but really you need to come and see him for yourselves, have a look at PONTY and the fantastic history file he has that accompanies him.
